Project Description
Urban forestry is an emerging discipline. Our proposed project builds on a previous appreciative inquiry approach to build consensus on shared curricular outcomes for international urban forestry programs in higher education. The approach included a Delphi survey and focus group of international urban forestry educators. Our project seeks to extend and apply this project by surveying undergraduate and graduate urban forestry students about their perceptions of the competencies of an urban forestry graduate. We seek support for a deeper analysis of our original findings, as well as additional inquiry to include student voices. The findings will advance teaching and learning for urban forestry students by solidifying our collective understanding of the discipline.
Research Questions
- What makes urban forestry unique as a branch of learning?
- What are the competencies of urban forestry graduates as understood by our students?
- How can we further incorporate these demonstrable competencies into our classrooms?
