Project Lead: Dr. Alifa Bandali, Institute for Social Justice (GRSJ)
Project description
In light of escalating global politics and the residuals of the Covid-19 pandemic, students are increasingly in need of more opportunities to discuss how they are living and feeling the world around them in the classroom. Faculty are not always equipped to provide the emotional care, knowledge and support in their courses. This project is an opportunity for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice (GRSJ) faculty to discuss questions and possibilities related to emotional pedagogies. The aim is to begin with members of GRSJ with the potential to expand the project to the Faculty of Arts.
Research questions
1. Do faculty consider emotional pedagogies in their teaching praxis?
2. How do faculty negotiate the role of emotions for themselves, the classroom and students?
3. How do faculty understand emotions impacting the learning environments?
