Mino-Bimaadiziwin in the Classroom: Challenging and Engaging Students Through Ojibwe Philosophy

Project Lead: Benjamin Ramirez, Community, Culture, and Global Studies UBCO

Project description

I look to examine the impact of Mino-Bimaadiziwin, an Ojibwe philosophical concept, on student engagement and the ways in which Mino-Bimaadiziwin can challege settler narratives regarding Indigenous peoples.

Research questions

  • In what ways does the application of the Ojibwe philosophy, Mino-Bimaadiziwin, enhance students’ knowledge on Indigenous people?
  • In what ways do the Medicine Wheel Teachings promote classroom engagement and critical reflection that challenge pre-concieved notions of
    Indigenous people?
  • How does storytelling impact student engagement on contemporary issues faced by Indigenous communities?
