Project description

The Online Branching Community Pharmacy Case (OBCPC) (https://blogs.ubc.ca/onlinebranchingcommunitypharmacycase/), a virtual gaming scenario (VSG), was deployed to 224-year 1 (PY1) entry-to-practice PharmD students offering them an opportunity in their first semester to experience a simulated patient scenario with trained actors. The case was integrated into Qualtrics as an online survey with branching logic to allow students to see the consequences of their clinical decision-making. In this project, we will analyze student attitudes towards and feedback on the case to develop informed research questions that contribute to the literature around virtual cases and student’s professional attitudes toward community pharmacy.

Research questions

  • How has the OBCPC impacted PY1 student attitudes towards using patient care process (PCP) as a community-based Pharmacist?
  • What are PY1 student attitudes about using the PCP as a community-based Pharmacist?
  • What experiences have influenced PY1 student attitudes about using the PCP as a community-based Pharmacist?
  • How have PY1 student perceptions about using the PCP impacted motivation for learning in the first semester of the PharmD program?
  • Has the OBCPC changed student attitudes about using the PCP as a community-based Pharmacist, and if so, how?
  • Has the OBCPC changed student learning or motivation for learning in their first semester of the PharmD program?
