Learning Analytics

Learning analytics is defined by the Society of Learning Analytics Research as “the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimising learning and the environments in which it occurs”. The multi-disciplinary field borrows from the Learning Sciences, Information Sciences, Computer Science, Psychology, Statistics, Linguistics, and other related fields. ISoTL seeks to promote the use of learning analytics to support teaching and learning, inform relevant decisions, evaluate technology and pedagogy, and provide feedback to learners and instructors, while maintaining a balance between data utility, privacy, and ethical considerations.
